Empowering Our Community to Save Lives
At Abingdon Fire Company, we believe that a safer community starts with knowledge — and that lifesaving skills should be accessible to everyone. That’s why we proudly offer American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR/AED and First Aid classes to residents, families, neighborhood groups, and anyone who wants to be ready when an emergency happens. Our instructors create a supportive, hands-on learning environment where participants can ask questions, practice essential skills, and build the confidence needed to step in and help until first responders arrive.
Whether you’re a parent wanting to protect your family, a teacher or coach responsible for large groups, a caregiver supporting vulnerable individuals, or simply someone committed to community service, our classes give you the knowledge and courage to make a real difference. Learning CPR isn’t just about meeting a requirement — it’s about becoming a resource your community can count on.
Pre-registration is required, and classes are open to anyone age 12 and older. We welcome individuals as well as larger community groups, and we’re always happy to help connect you with the training session that best fits your needs.

Why CPR Training Matters
Most cardiac arrests happen at home — and in many cases, the only person nearby is a loved one who doesn’t know how to help. By learning CPR, you’re not just gaining a skill… you’re becoming a lifesaver.
Here are a few important facts from the American Heart Association:
- Nearly 80% of cardiac arrests occur in the home.
- Immediate CPR can double or triple a person’s chance of survival.
- Heart disease is the #1 cause of death for women.
- Heart disease and stroke are the #1 and #3 killers of Black Americans.
- Only 6.3% of people feel confident performing CPR in an emergency.
Every trained bystander helps strengthen our community’s safety net.
